Our ‘How to’ Guides

We want this process to be as simple and hassle free as it can be for you. Let’s walk you through the entire process from start to finish.

How to Measure your Kitchen Doors

You’ll need a tape measure, pen, and paper to keep a note of your measurements.

For your doors and drawer fronts:

  • Always measure from the rear or the reverse of the door, never from the face or the front of the door.
  • Measure in millimetres.
  • First, measure the height of the door, so clip your tape measure over the top of the door and measure down. Then the width of the door. Again, clip the tape measure over the back of the door.
  • Take note of this measurement and which door it is. Then work your way around the kitchen, including all doors and drawer fronts.
  • Always measure the door, not the carcass or cabinet.
  • Remember, your doors will be made to your exact measurements. If you find that your current doors often rub together or are poorly fitted, you may need to make allowances for this.

Firstly, always measure from the rear or the reverse of the door, never from the face or the front of the door.
Some doors have bevelled [edges] on the front of the front edge [of the door] giving a false reading in millimetres, so always open the door.
We need to measure firstly the height of the door, so clip your tape measure over the top of the door and we are measuring down. So this door will be 715mm in height, and then the width of the door. Again, clip the tape measure over the back of the door. This door will be 295mm wide.
So this door will be 715mm high [height] by 295mm wide [width].

How to Measure your Kitchen Door Hinges

We offer FREE hinge hole drilling when you order from across our kitchen ranges – here’s how to measure up…

  • Firstly, you must note that if your door has the handle on the left-hand side, we call this ‘hinged on the right’. If the handle is on the right hand side, we call this ‘hinged on the left’.
  • Measure in millimetres.
  • Open the door, and measure to the centre of the bottom hinge from the bottom of the door, and the centre of the top hinge from the top of the door.
  • It is important to measure all hinge positions on every door as they may be different, and depending on the style you have chosen will dictate where it is to be hung.
  • Always measure your kitchen door hinges from the back/inside of the door.
  • Always measure the door, not the carcass or cabinet.

In this video we show you how to measure the hinge / hinge positions on your kitchen doors so you can order your made to measure kitchen doors confidently with their required hinge holes pre drilled. An optional service offered by Just Kitchen Doors.

How to Measure your Existing Kitchen Doors Hinges, Video Transcription

How to measure the hinges on our existing [kitchen] doors.
Firstly, this [kitchen] door has the handle on the left hand side. We call this ‘hinged on the right’. If the handle were on the right hand side, we would call this ‘hinged on the left’.
So for hinge positions we need to open the door, and we are measuring firstly to the centre of the bottom hinge from the bottom of the door, and the centre of the top hinge from the top of the door.
So we need to measure from the bottom of the door to the centre of the bottom hinge, which on this door is 100mm. And the top of the door to the centre of the hinge, which again on this door, is 100mm.
So this door is hinged on the right hand side, 100mm from the bottom of the door and 100mm from the top of the door.
